What does WCB cover for psychological injuries?

WCB Alberta covers psychological injuries that are directly caused by a traumatic workplace event or a series of traumatic events. This includes PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, and other diagnosable psychological conditions that arise from your work.

First responders, emergency dispatchers, correctional officers, and nurses may be eligible for presumptive coverage — meaning PTSD is automatically assumed to be work-related unless proven otherwise, making the claims process significantly easier.

As a registered WCB provider, we submit the Mental Health First Report (C1392) on your behalf and manage all ongoing billing and reporting — at no administrative burden to you.

1

Report your injury to your employer and WCB

File a Worker's Report of Injury with WCB Alberta. Your employer is also required to report. This starts your claim.

2

Contact us with your WCB claim number

Once you have an accepted or pending claim, call us. We will verify your coverage and get you booked with the right psychologist for your needs.

3

We submit all reporting to WCB

We complete the Mental Health First Report and all ongoing progress reports required by WCB. You attend your sessions — we handle the rest.

Who Is Eligible

Your injury at work
deserves support.

WCB covers psychological injuries that are clearly linked to traumatic workplace events. A formal diagnosis from a registered psychologist is required to support your claim — we provide that as part of our intake process.

You may be eligible if your psychological condition developed following one or more of the following:

A traumatic event at work (robbery, assault, accident, death)
Repeated exposure to traumatic events over time
Bullying or harassment in the workplace
PTSD as a first responder or correctional officer
Psychological symptoms linked to a physical workplace injury

How to get started

Already have a WCB claim or think you may be eligible? Here's what to do:

2

Contact our clinic and let us know you have an active or pending WCB claim for a psychological injury. We will confirm your coverage and book your intake.

3

We complete the Mental Health First Report

Your psychologist completes the WCB Mental Health First Report (C1392) at your first session. This is submitted directly to WCB to establish your treatment plan.
