Non-Insured Health Benefits Program

What is NIHB and how does it help you?

The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program is a federal program administered by Indigenous Services Canada that provides eligible First Nations, Metis and Inuit individuals with coverage for a range of health benefits not covered by provincial or territorial health insurance.

Mental health services — including sessions with a registered psychologist — are fully covered under NIHB. As a registered provider, we handle all billing directly with Indigenous Service Canada through Express Scripts Canada (ESC) so you never pay out of pocket.

1

Confirm your eligibility

You are eligible if you are a registered First Nations person or recognized Inuit. Your NIHB client ID is on your status card.

2

Contact us to book

Let us know you'd like to use your NIHB benefits when booking. We'll take care of the rest — no paperwork required from you.

3

We bill Indigenous Services Canada directly

We submit claims on your behalf after each session to Express Scripts Canada (ESC). You attend your appointments — we handle all the administration.

🏥

NIHB registration is not automatic — it requires individual application and commitment. The psychologists at our clinic who hold this designation have pursued it intentionally, and bring the cultural awareness, clinical skills to provide meaningful care for Indigenous individuals and families.

💳

Direct Billing — Zero Cost to You

We submit your claims electronically to Express Scripts Canada (ESC). You will never receive a bill for services covered under your NIHB benefits.

🌿
