Parenting Coaching
-
Children at this age begin to assert their independence as they navigate developmental, emotional and social challenges.
As parents, learning to foster our own sense of patience and consistency, while balancing structure with empathy is a key element of creating an environment in which children feel safe and secure, as they learn to navigate their own emotions.
-
As children enter their school years they begin to form a stronger sense of identity among peer relationships. Children at this stage continue to deeply need parental connection, structure and reassurance.
As parents, this means fostering open communication, emotion regulation and confidence as children navigate the balance between autonomy and belonging.
-
Throughout adolescence, children seek greater independence and begin shaping their personal values and identities. This can be a particularly challenging time for parents as they navigate responding to and supporting their developing child.
As parents, this stage often involves offering guidance while continuing to set boundaries and maintaining open, respectful communication. This stage requires navigating a balance of autonomy with connection, helping our children feel seen and supported as they navigate the transition toward adulthood.
Support for the Most Important (and Challenging) Job You’ll Ever Have
Parenthood is one of life’s most rewarding experiences, but also one of it’s most demanding. There’s no manual or one-size-fits-all roadmap. At times, you might feel like you’re falling short or losing parts of yourself in the process. That’s not a reflection of your ability; it’s a reflection of how hard you’re trying.
Parenting often stirs up deep emotions, even from our own childhood. Old patterns, emotional triggers, and unconscious habits can surface, making it harder to stay grounded and connected. But awareness is powerful and it’s the first step toward change.
What to Expect
Parenting coaching offers compassionate, practical support to help you navigate the complexities of raising children while also tending to your own emotional wellbeing.
Our sessions are supportive and non-judgmental spaces where you can share frustrations, ask questions, and explore new approaches to parenting. It’s not about being a perfect parent. Instead, it’s about becoming a more present, confident, and emotionally aware parent.
Through this process, you can expect to learn how to:
Understand and manage your emotional triggers
Communicate more effectively with your children
Set healthy boundaries without shame or guilt
Respond with intention instead of reacting from stress or overwhelm
Strengthen your connection with your child, even through the challenging moments
Common reasons parents will seek coaching:
Changes in the family system (separation, divorce, co-parenting challenges)
Power struggles or emotional outbursts at home
Struggling with sibling rivalry or bedtime routines
School-related stress
Behavioral issues (anxiety, depression, aggression or attention concerns)
Unsure how to support a neurodivergent child
Whether you're feeling disconnected from your child, overwhelmed by day-to-day stress, or simply unsure of what’s “normal,” reaching out is not a sign of weakness, it’s a courageous step toward growth.
Meet The Parenting Coach - Joanna Novogradac
As a homeschooling mother of three children ages 12, 6, and 2, I understand firsthand the challenges and complexities of parenting children in different stages of development. My educational background in Psychology and Child and Youth Work, combined with 15 years of experience in children’s mental health, has allowed me to support children, youth, and families in navigating emotional regulation, behavioural concerns, and relational difficulties.
Over time my professional experience, continued education in attachment, connection, structure, and safety, and my own lived experience as a parent have deepened my belief that healing and growth often begin within the parent-child relationship. In my earlier work, much of the focus was placed on supporting children and youth in developing emotional and behavioural skills. While needed, I came to recognize that sustainable change also requires meaningful support for parents and caregivers. By helping parents explore their own experiences, patterns, and areas of need, we create the foundation for stronger relationships and healthier family dynamics.
I hold the belief that all parents are doing the best they can with the knowledge they have, and that growth emerges through understanding, compassion, and connection. In my practice, I strive to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where parents and caregivers can explore challenges, strengthen emotional awareness, and build confidence in navigating the demands of parenting. Together, I hope we can work toward fostering greater connection, balance, and resilience, for both you and your children.

Seeing a psychologist can be a great way to improve your mental health. It can help you figure out what's going on in your head, and it can provide you with the tools you need to help yourself feel better. Here are some of the benefits of seeing a psychologist:
-You'll gain insight into what's causing negative feelings or behaviors in your life.
-You'll learn how to manage those feelings and behaviors, so they don't take over and cause problems for you anymore.
-You'll gain tools that will help you live a happier life!
-
At your first appointment, you'll have a chance to meet with your psychologist and talk about what you're going through. You can expect to discuss things like your goals and expectations for therapy, how often you'd like to meet, and what kind of support you might need from family members or friends.
If you haven't seen a psychologist before, it's normal to feel nervous or even scared. But don't worry! Your psychologist is there to help you and make sure that you feel safe during this process.
-
You are the expert in your journey. It’s important you find a therapist that fits your needs. The relationship you have with your therapist is imperative for the client to meet their desired outcomes.
If a psychologist is a good fit, you should feel comfortable, heard, and safe. Many people go through life feeling like they are not good enough or can’t achieve their goals. Having a safe space to talk about your thoughts and feelings can be very helpful in learning more about yourself and figuring out ways to change the things that don’t work for you.
-
No, you do not need a referral to see a psychologist. You can choose to see a psychologist without anyone else's input, but if you do want to talk to your doctor or other health care professionals about why you think seeing a psychologist would be helpful for you, they can give you feedback and advice on how they think it might go.
Additionally, we are a team-based organization and want to provide comprehensive psychological care, which may involve us working with your doctor, psychiatrist, or other health care professionals if necessary.
-
We believe in collaborative care, meaning we want to find a balance between respecting your requests as the parent, and allowing a child/adolescent to have their own voice and be heard.
We encourage you to accompany your child/adolescent for their first visit, after which we can determine whether attending the session with them will be more beneficial, or if having you wait in our waiting area is better suited for their needs.
-
The length of time it takes for therapy to work depends on the person, their experience with therapy and the issues they are working through.
In general, clients will often start to feel relief after about 8 sessions. We recommend staying in therapy for 3-6 months at a time before making a decision about whether or not you want to continue.
